Challenges Challenges

Can you believe that it is the middle of January? It was just a few weeks ago that we were making our resolutions/goals.  Have you been able to stick with those Resolutions?  I am now up to 10 Push-ups – only 40 more to go!  But, I haven’t been able to schedule one on one time with a grandchild yet. The month isn’t over, so I am still hopeful. It is always a “Challenge” to change routines or to keep our goals, because life happens and our situations change.

I have now added two more Challenges/Goals to my life and one of them is that I am participating in a 30 Day Healthy Lifestyle Challenge. I am seriously thinking about leading one when I complete this, so if you are interested, please let me know.

The other Challenge is to complete some of my to-do-list and/or my UFOs. I have kitchen cabinets that I have not finished painting, quilt tops that need quilting, quilt tops that need to be finished, yard work that I want to accomplish….  So, in the spirit of The New Year, I am going to put a Challenge out there:

QLC’s 2018 Lottery UFO Challenge

If you decide to take on this Challenge, here are the rules:

  • Come to QLC by January 31st, sign up to participate and purchase a $10 item that will go into the Lottery Pot. All Participants receive a 15% discount on this purchase.
  • Bring in a list of items that you want to complete (quilting, scrapbooking, knitting, gardening, soap making…) with details of current state listed on the form that can be printed from this link.   You are welcome to use more than one form.
  • As you complete your items bring it in to show or take a photo and send to me, so that you will be entered into that month’s lottery drawing. At the end of the year, everyone that completed at least one item from their list each month will be entered for the Grand Prize drawing.  The number of people that decide to participate will determine how large the Grand Prize is and how many winners there will be.

I hope you decide to take on this Challenge and share in this Year of accomplishing goals.

Be Happy, Be Creative and Have Sew Much Fun!

See you soon,

Betsy

New Goals for the New Year

Did you make any resolutions for the New Year? For me, resolutions just don’t work, because they are too broad.  So, as I contemplated the New Year, I decided that I was going to set some new GOALS. Goals that are obtainable with baby steps:

My Health Goal is to be able to do 50 push-ups at one time. This will require me to do sets during the day. So, if you come in the shop and find me on the floor – you will know why.

My Family Goal is to spend at least one day a month, one on one with one of my grandchildren. I feel very fortunate to be close enough to spend time with them and I enjoy when they come to our house as a family, but I would also like to spend some SPECIAL time with each one of them.

My Personal Goal and Business Goal is to be more consistent with sending out emails,  and offering more classes.  AND giving QLC customers the chance to win gifts!!

Happy New Year and Let the Fun Begin!!!

Betsy

The New Consignment Shop!

That’s right! Quilts Like Crazy is proud to announce that we are now accepting consignment listings! For one flat fee of $10.00 per listing, you can advertise your homemade goods or crafting equipment on our website. There is no time limit on the listing; it will remain visible from the time we receive your payment, until you tell us to remove it. Items accepted include: quilts, bags, pillowcases, table runners, bed runners, curtains, clothing, used sewing/embroidery machines (all makes & models), notions, etc. Things not accepted: store bought items, household goods not related to crafting.

The Way it Works:
If you would like to post an item for sale, please fill out the Consignment Store Listing Form found on the Downloadable/Printable Forms page or on www.quiltslikecrazy.com under the Consignment Store tab. You may email the completed form to tara@quiltslikecrazy.com or mail it to:
Quilts Like Crazy 1241-08 S. Main Street, Wake Forest, NC 27587
You will then either mail us or hand deliver the payment for your listing. Once we have received the payment, we will list your item(s) for sale on our website. The prospective buyers will contact you directly to arrange the sale of the item. Once the item has sold, you email us and we take the listing off the website. We do not handle any payments for items, shipping or pick-up/drop-off. You, as the seller, are responsible for providing accurate descriptions of all items. It is up to you to work out a time/place to meet with the buyer, or to ship the item to the buyer. We simply provide a venue for advertising your goods. You are welcome to use the shop as a safe, public meeting place between buyer and seller, but we will not hold items or in any way be responsible for consignment items. We hope to serve as a connection between crafters from all over the US to buy and sell their handmade items and crafting equipment. If you have any questions, please email tara@quiltslikecrazy.com.

 Registration and Feedback Update:
In order to be better stewards and keep better records, we are now asking anyone who is attending a class or event to fill out a registration form. These forms are available on the Downloadable/Printable Forms page or on www.quiltslikecrazy.com under the classes and events tabs, respectively. You may either, email the form to tara@quiltslikecrazy.com, mail it in, come in-person and fill out a paper copy, or call us and dictate the information to someone here who will fill out a form on your behalf. The main purpose is to provide consistent records for us to know who attends which classes/events and to better understand what our customers want/don’t want.

We also have a feedback form now available and we highly encourage you to fill out a form for each class or event you attend.  We love to hear from our customers and any information, either positive or negative will help us to continue to improve your experience with us. If you wish to submit a comment regarding service received, please use the form found on www.quiltslikecrazy.com under the “Contact Us” tab. To review a class/event or instructor,  you may fill out the Review Form under the Downloadable/Printable Forms page. Any comments, questions or reviews submitted will be kept strictly confidential and used only to improve the quality of services offered. You may also use the comments form on the website to recommend new classes or events you would like to see in the future. You can always email us directly, but we prefer for you to use the forms so that we can have a standard method of comparison and an easy way to keep track of all input received.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of us and your patience as we make improvements, try new things and just generally grow in our knowledge and efficiency as a business.

New Year, New Opportunities!

2012 has started with a bang here at Quilts Like Crazy! We have lots of new opportunities which we are very excited about, as well as a number of “oldies but goodies.” One new thing this year, Betsy has decided to jump into the world of teaching and is leading the brand new Block of the Month: Mystery Quilt Edition. This group meets on the third Saturday of each month. The cost is $10/month and you learn a new block at each class, which will create a mystery sampler when put together at the end of the year. You will receive a copy of the pattern used, after the completion of the quilt.

Another brand new event for QLC is the hosting of a Baby Shower to benefit a client of Pregnancy Support Services of Wake Forest. As most of you probably know, Tara (Betsy’s daughter and Karen’s grand-daughter) and her husband are expecting their first child on March 11th (3 weeks left!). So, in honor of them, and in an effort to give back to the community, we decided to throw a baby shower for someone less fortunate. After contacting PSSWF, we were partnered with a young woman named, Samantha. She is approximately 18 years old and is expecting a little girl in early June. The shower will be Saturday, February 18th (tomorrow!) from 1-3pm, in the backroom at Quilts Like Crazy. All gifts are appreciated! Email Tara (tara@quiltslikecrazy.com) to RSVP or with any questions.

Also, we have started a new group, the Wake Forest Quarter Seamers. Led by Debbie Powell, this is a club type group which meets every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10-1. They plan a new project every quarter and otherwise just enjoy the company of other quilters. You can bring problems you have or projects you have always wanted to do and get Debbie’s help and advice. They also plan field trips and other fun outings as a group. The cost is $25/month and you can join at any time. Please, email Betsy (betsy@quiltslikecrazy.com) or call the shop (919-562-3425) for more information or to sign-up.

Some old familiars that have been continued into the new year include:
1.) UnFinished Objects (UFO)/Panel Night on the 2nd Friday of every month from 6pm-until.
Everyone is welcome to attend, but please, RSVP by the Thursday before so we have an idea of how many are coming and can prepare seats for everyone. Please, bring a finger food or drink to share with the group, as well as a project and any necessary equipment (ie: bring your own sewing machine.).

2.) Machine Embroidery Class: the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 2-4pm.
All brands of embroidery machines are welcome! This class is led by Barbara Hendricks and is open to all level embroiderers. They make a new project each month, designed to teach you new techniques and to become more familiar with your machine. Cost is $20/month.

And, as always, we have a constantly changing list of classes offered throughout the year. Jean Frazier’s Beginner Class is always popular and is typically offered about four times per year. Other classes vary by season, so keep checking the calendar on our website for the most recent listings and new events. Come try something new, make new friends and grow your skill repertoire!

We look forward to seeing you soon, until then,
Happy Quilting!

New Arrivals and Old Friends

Wow! September was a very exciting month here at Quilts Like Crazy and October seemed to come out of no-where. Quilt! Carolina went off without a hitch and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves, I know we did! Most of you probably are aware that Betsy had surgery on September 28th. This also went very well and she is at home recovering as well as can be expected. All of the cards, phone calls, flowers and well wishes have been greatly appreicated. Meanwhile, Karen and Tara have been holding down the fort and working very hard to add to the online inventory available on our website: www.Quiltslikecrazy.com. Our goal is to have all of our approximately 2,000 bolts of fabric available online by the end of the year. To best serve you, our customers, we are adding the fabric by collection and striving to add those fabrics which we believe will be most in demand. To this end, we have added our entire Christmas and Autumn/Harvest collection as well as our Civil War fabrics. I have on display some of our new arrivals, and some old friend from these collections which I felt were appropriate for the sudden change in seasons we have recently experienced. All of these fabric are available online and in store.

Classes, classes and more classes

Yes, it is that time of year again…school time! You have probably completed most of your back-to-school shopping by now, open house and teacher conferences are finished and you (finally) have some time to yourself while your children are off getting, what you hope, is a good education. Now that you have done all that you can to help them get this school year off to a great start, isn’t it time to do the same for yourself?

No matter your age, it’s never too late to learn a new skill, or brush up on an old one. At Quilts Like Crazy, we offer many different classes in sewing, quilting, and embroidery. Why should the kids be the only ones to take advantage of a good education? No matter if you have never used a sewing machine or you just want to learn a new, more advanced technique, we have a class that is sure to meet your needs!

Just check out our calendar tab on our website to learn about all of the up and coming classes. We normally try to list classes about a month in advance so you have plenty of time to get registered, and come into the shop to pick out your fabric. For the adventurous types, feel free to pick any fabric you want to personalize your project. If you think the idea of choosing fabric for a project is daunting, don’t worry! We offer kits of pre-cut fabric for a lot of our classes, so you can make sure that your project will look just like your teacher’s. Whatever your style or experience level, we LOVE to help people discover and develop a love for quilting. All of our staff is able to help you make decisions on purchases including: patterns to match your experience, fabric to fit your pattern and all the notions and accessories you could ever want!

Quaking with excitement!

Wow! Who felt the earth shaking today? It wasn’t just your imagination the US Geological Survey reported a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in VA with shock waves being felt as far away as the triangle. Here at Quilts Like Crazy things are definitely shaken up, but not from the earthquake. We are very excited about all of the changes in store and online. Our new website is (finally) up and running and available for our lovely customers to place orders. For all our long distance friends, we will ship anywhere in the US and international, for the locals who see something they need and want to save time shopping in store, you can place your order online, then in the comments box tell us you want to pick it up in store. We will cut your fabric and have everything rung up and ready to go, all you have to do is pick it up, or you could even send your hubby to come get it if you can’t stand to be away from your sewing machine for that long. We are also gearing up for Quilt!Carolina and if you haven’t got your passport, it’s not too late. Visit our website for more information as well as the complete list of classes and events available.
